LUISA MATSUSHITA | ANIMAL
Our inaugural exhibition entitled ANIMAL features new works by Luísa Matsushita from Brazil.
For this exhibit, Luísa has created three series of works. Her sumi ink paintings depict assemblages and unearthly landscapes of jaguars which are delicate, expressive yet graphic, showing off the artist's exquisite technique. Her collages are exuberant, with bold use of color and shape. The third series is a collaboration between the artist and San Francisco ceramicist Daren Wilson. Known for his simple and elegant bud vases, Daren has created a dozen vases for Luisa to bring to life with her vocabulary of black and white symbols and colorful splashes.
In addition to her talents in visual art, Luísa is also the well known musician Lovefoxxx, lead singer of beloved Brazilian band CSS which started in São Paulo in 2003. Luísa currently lives in Hudson, New York.
